We have become:

credible TV programme makers

skilled project managers

adept at partnership working

tough on costs!

We are the only charity in the country producing public service programming for mainstream broadcasters and as part of the package we deliver a range of activities for viewers and listeners which have a long lasting impact on people's daily lives.

Our approach to engaging the majority rather than going for a segment of the audience achieves some interesting results:

a strong audience rating, which can be higher than the average for the slot

up to 20 times the audience response that broadcasters would normally see

as many men as women responding

higher than the regional average of response from the most disadvantaged communities

at least 70% conversion rate of viewer response into action

less than 10%… 1 http://psbt.dev.marmaladeontoast.co.uk/what-we-do/30/a+special+approach+to+engagement?utm_source=zest&utm_medium=rss Mon, 16 Aug 2010 13:46:00 +0100 Individuals

We offer individuals the opportunity to participate in initiatives which have a direct benefit to them as well as the wider community. You will see our campaigns on TV or online, hear them on the radio or read about them in the press.

If you want to participate, we guarantee you can. There is no selection process. All activities are designed to work for everyone. You can just be you! If you want, you can bring your friends, carers, relations and acquaintances with you.

If you like what you’ve been doing we can make suggestions about other things you might like to try. We can engage large numbers of ‘hard to reach’ people very quickly. These people are often not already in touch with services that could make a difference to them.

With public sector partners we can

 1. Design and implement public service and social action campaigns for broadcast to the masses

 2. Promote positive imagery of marginalised groups and the wider public

 3. Create a sense of equality across the public at large; campaigns are for everyone not just a chosen few because they are perceived to have less than the majority. Sometimes we need to make personal referrals for expert help, for example if we are doing something on saving money and someone needs some help sorting out their debts, or we might ask a telephone helpline to provide specialist support if we are covering a distressing topic such as child abuse.

We work at different levels from developing and implementing projects which support the work of voluntary organisations to proactively encouraging voluntary organisations to take part in campaigns we are running.

We also engage with voluntary organisations in the setting up of projects and campaigns because we don’t want to duplicate what is already available in communities. We want local people to engage with local people and negotiate with local services for meeting spaces, involve their staff and utilise their experience to the full. In this way, when the campaign comes to an end, local people participating in our project can be sure to have an extended network of contacts to rely upon later.

We can work with the voluntary sector at different levels:

Locally, as part… 1 http://psbt.dev.marmaladeontoast.co.uk/what-we-do/34/voluntary+sector?utm_source=zest&utm_medium=rss
